An Italian sweet pepper bearing copious amounts of fruit shaped like elongated cones. The fruit come on early and mature from green to red, at which point they are about 100cm long.
When grown in 7.5 litre pots, the plants are easily-controlled and not overly large: they measure about 80cm tall and can spread up to 80cm wide.
Frigitello is at its best when treated like the Padron pepper and eaten whole as a mangetout. Harvest young green fruit that are between 5.0 and 7.5cm long, at which point the skin and seeds are soft and the flesh is starting to thicken up. Then fry the fruit until the skin blisters – unlike the padron there is no heat, so there are no surprises.
This pepper is sometimes called "Friariello".
