Beta vulgaris Cicla Group
A Swiss chard variety with extra-wide white stems. Treated as a separate vegetable, the stems can be sliced crossways, cooked in boiling water and eaten with butter, salt and pepper – simple, tender and tasty. In contrast, the large green tops can be chopped and cooked like spinach, or rolled around a chopped vegetable or meat invention – they become a home-grown substitute for grape leaves, and are just as good.
White Silver is a gift that keeps on giving: it grows well not just outdoors but also undercover from the autumn to the spring.
