Poi Saag (aka Malabar Spinach)
Also known as Malabar or Ceylon spinach, this tropical green is popular in Asian, Chinese and Thai cooking. The heat loving plants grow into vines lined with dark green leaves that have a distinctive slippery texture.
Sow seeds from May to June in a heated propagator, and transplant the seedlings into an unheated greenhouse or tunnel. As the plants start to run, provide some support so that they can grow upwards and off the ground. Harvest larger leaves and side shoots as they develop. Our seeds originated from a London-based Guyanese allotment holder, who has been growing this variety for years.
