Beta vulgaris

Boltardy is a popular bolt-resistant beetroot that can be sown earlier in the year than many other varieties. It is a dependable producer of globe-shaped roots that have a deep burgundy colour.

Sow in modules under cover beginning in March, then transplant when the roots of the seedlings fill the cell. Alternatively, direct seed outside in late March to early April. For continuity of supply, make monthly sowings until July.
