Club history
Portesham United were originally founded in 1905. Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s the club enjoyed a golden era with a fantastic spell of dominance in the Dorset football scene. However, in the early 1990s the sucessful village club moved to the local town of Weymouth and became Weymouth United FC, leaving a gap in the heart of Portesham.
Over a decade later in 2005, Portesham residents Paddy and Matt Croxson formed a team of local Portesham players including a couple of, now, older players – the old legends of the 1980s. The team joined the Weymouth Sunday League. In 2010 the successful Sunday League outfit was turned into a Saturday side and the Portesham United name was once again a part of the Dorset Football handbooks.
